Kentucky Women’s Tennis Continues Road Stretch at Indiana, Notre Dame

by Cami Moore

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will continue its six-match road stretch this weekend in the state of Indiana, competing at Indiana on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. ET and at Notre Dame on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m.

The Wildcats boast a 5-2 record this season after falling to a pair of ranked foes at the International Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend tournament last weekend. The squad is 29-13 (.690) in singles action and 10-6 (.625) in the doubles action this season.

Freshman Carlota Molina is having a standout rookie season in singles thus far, forming a 6-0 record during the spring session and an 11-1 mark overall in 2019-20. Last weekend, she defeated two ranked opponents on court No. 3, becoming the solo Kentucky women’s tennis player to turn in a win over a ranked opponent this season.

The Gran Canaria, Spain, native isn’t the only Wildcat to boast a perfect singles record ahead of the Indiana road trip as senior Anastasia Tkachenko has put together a 7-0 mark on court Nos. 5 and 6 in dual matches this season. Both Molina and Tkachenko will look to keep their overall eight-match win streak alive through the weekend.

The No. 21 doubles team in the nation, Lesedi Jacobs and Akvile Parazinskaite, remain steadfast in the doubles competition, holding on to their 13-1 overall record, including their 3-0 mark in dual matches. The tandem hasn’t completed a match since Jan. 21, as the doubles team carded a pair of unfinished contests at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, trailing in both matches before they were abandoned.

Indiana sports a young team with four newcomers and four returners. The Hoosiers are 1-1, filing a 4-0 loss to Alabama and a 4-2 triumph over UAB.

Notre Dame is 3-1 this season, including a 2-0 mark at home. The Fighting Irish recorded a pair of wins over Bowling Green to begin their season, then defeated Furman in a 4-2 decision in the first round at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, before losing to No. 3 Georgia in the championships match, 5-2.
