UKTF Women Ranked 5th, Men Ranked 10th in USTFCCCA Rankings
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky was ranked in the top-10 in both the women’s (No. 5) and men’s (No. 10) United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index on Monday.
After being ranked tenth in the first edition of the USTFCCCA’s rankings, the women’s team pulled off impressive performances in their first four indoor meets and now have NCAA leaders in the 200-meter (Abby Steiner, 23.06 seconds), 400m (Alexis Holmes, 52.27), high jump (Ellen Ekholm, 1.86m) and the 4x400m relay (Megan Moss, Steiner, Dajour Miles and Holmes) where the team’s time of 3:31.29 is currently the fastest time in the world.
The men’s team moved up 18 spots from their preseason ranking. Langston Jackson has the second-fastest time in the NCAA in the 200m with a 20.72 and the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA in the 60m dash with a 6.61. Elsewhere, Joshua Sobota is fifth in the NCAA in the shot put with a mark of 20.20m and Matthew Peare is ninth in the NCAA in the pole vault with a mark of 5.40m.
Kentucky has this weekend off and will then travel to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Doc Hale Elite Meet on Feb. 7-8. The distance runners are scheduled to compete at the Camel City Invite in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Feb. 8.
