UKTF Women’s Team Ranked 10th in USTFCCCA’s Preseason Rankings
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s track and field team was ranked No. 10 in the first edition of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.
The women’s team has been ranked inside the top 10 for indoor track and field in the first USTFCCCA rankings in every year since 2014, including being ranked No. 10 to open last season in head coach Lonnie Greene’s first year at the helm.
The USTFCCCA’s rating index uses student-athletes that meet a certain mark or time in their respective events as part of its points system. For Kentucky, that was Chloe Abbott (400m), Celera Barnes (60m), Ellen Ekholm (high jump), Nicole Fautsch (shot put), Carly Hinkle (high jump), Alexis Holmes (400m), Molly Leppelmeier (weight throw), Faith Ross (60h), Masai Russell (60h) and Abby Steiner (200m, 60m).
UK’s women’s team finished sixth at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships and 21st at the NCAA Indoor Championships last season. The team returns its 4x400m relay team of Abbott, Ross, Russell and Steiner which earned a point at NCAA’s last season.
The Wildcats will host their second meet of the season on Friday and Saturday in the Jim Green Invitational at Nutter Field House.
