FWAA Names Max Duffy, Logan Stenberg to All-America Teams
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky junior punter Max Duffy and senior offensive guard Logan Stenberg were honored as All-Americans by the Football Writers Association, it was announced today. Duffy was named to the first team, while Stenberg earned second-team honors.
Duffy is UK’s second consecutive FWAA First-Team All-American and 11th overall. Linebacker/defensive end Josh Allen was named to the first team last season as well.
Duffy, the Ray Guy Award winner for the nation’s top punter, is a native of Perth, Australia. He has been an absolute weapon for the Wildcats this season, dominating the field position game with his booming and accurate leg. He is UK’s career punt leader with a 46.5-yard average and with his distance and placement, Kentucky leads the nation in net punting with a 45.13-yard net average. Duffy leads the nation in punting at 48.6 yards per punt.
Only nine of Duffy’s 47 punts have been returned (19 percent) and 24 of them have landed inside the 20-yard line (51 percent). He doesn’t shy away from contact either. He has three career tackles, including an open-field tackle – possibly saving a touchdown – on UT Martin’s Terry Williams, who already has two punt return TDs on the season.
Duffy was also named a first-team All-American by the AFCA FBS Coaches’, The Associated Press, ESPN.com, Walter Camp, Sporting News and The Athletic. He was a second-team selection by CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated.
Stenberg, a native of Madison, Alabama, earned his first All-America honor of the season after helping anchor an offensive line regarded as one of the best in the country. He was a key cog in the nation’s fourth-ranked rushing offense, as the Cats completely re-vamped their attack after a rash of injuries at quarterback position. The Cats rushed for 274.4 yards per game, including three consecutive games of at least 400 yards to end the season. The team broke the single-game rushing record in back-to-back weeks, including 517 yards against Louisville in the regular season finale.
Stenberg, regarded as one of the toughest blocking guards in the SEC, and has started 38 consecutive games for the Cats.
