Miami (Ohio) Invitational: Cancelled
OXFORD, Ohio – The University of Kentucky diving program was scheduled to compete in the Miami (Ohio) Invitational Dec. 5-7. However, because of pool issues, Miami has cancelled the diving competition midway through the 26th annual invitational.
Thursday evening, two Wildcats competed on platform finals. Sophomore Danny Zhang placed third in the event with 322.45 points, just his second time competing on platform in his collegiate career. Junior Cara Hudson set a season high on the tower, forming a score of 203.90 points to finish in eighth place.
Friday morning, Kentucky competed on the men’s 1-meter springboard and the women’s 3-meter springboard preliminaries. Freshman Morgan Southall set a career high on 3m with 297.35 points to place eighth. Senior Emma Dellmore followed close behind with 276.95 points to place ninth. Hudson earned a mark of 241.05 to finish 20th, while junior Caroline McCleary recorded a 230.85 to finish 24th.
On the men’s side, Zhang notched a 331.80 for fourth place on the 1m. Freshman Caiden Lake recorded a 251.35 for ninth place.
The Friday preliminary scores (men’s 1m, women’s 3m) have become final scores. The field was unable to compete in the men’s 3m and the women’s 1m at meet.
Meanwhile, senior Peter Wetzlar was scheduled to compete in the 100-meter freestyle preliminaries at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Atlanta. He withdrew from the event.
Next on the Schedule
Sophomore diver Kyndal Knight will compete at USA Diving Winter Nationals, Dec. 14-22 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is scheduled to compete on the 3-meter springboard, with a chance to also compete on the 1-meter springboard. The swimming and diving program will not compete as a team again until Jan. 3-4 when the Wildcats face Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
