UK Men’s Soccer Heads to No. 5 Seed Indiana in Round of 32

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a thrilling 2-1 come-from-behind double-overtime victory over Loyola Chicago last Thursday, the Kentucky Wildcats (13-4-3, 4-2-1 Conference USA) are set to continue their run to the 2019 College Cup with a second-round matchup at No. 5 seed Indiana (14-2-4, 7-1 Big Ten Conference) on Sunday at noon ET, televised live on the Big Ten Network.

In the opening round of NCAA Championship competition at Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex, Kentucky trailed Loyola Chicago 1-0 for nearly 46 minutes before sophomore forward Jason Reyes tied the match with his first career penalty kick in the 82nd minute. The score remained knotted until the first minute of double overtime, when Eythor Bjorgolfsson extended Kentucky’s postseason with the fourth game-winning goal of his freshman campaign off a cross from Robert Screen.

Indiana’s last outing resulted in the program’s 14th Big Ten Tournament crown after winning a 4-3 penalty kick shootout in a 0-0 tie with Michigan on Nov. 17. The Hoosiers enter Sunday riding the momentum of a seven-match unbeaten streak overall and a 37-match unbeaten streak at Bill Armstrong Stadium, dating back to 2017.

The last meeting between UK and IU resulted in a scoreless draw in Bloomington, Indiana, on Oct. 9. Kentucky outshot Indiana 14-12, including 4-2 on goal. The Cats defeated the Hoosiers 3-0 in Lexington in 2018.
