Leah Edmond, Madison Lilley and Gabby Curry Win SEC Awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a clinical sweep of South Carolina and a 3-2 thrilling win at No. 11 Florida on Sunday afternoon, Kentucky Volleyball players Leah Edmond, Gabby Curry and Madison Lilley were named Southeastern Conference Players of the Week the league office announced on Monday.
Edmond, who had a career-high 30 kills in the match on Sunday against No. 11 Florida, won SEC Player of the Week and SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive weekend. The Lexington, Kentucky native registered 6.13 points and 5.38 kills per set and a .487 hitting percentage in road wins at South Carolina and No. 11 Florida this past weekend. Edmond recorded a career-high 30 kills against the Gators, the most kills in a single match by any UK player since 2004. She also had 11 digs in Sunday’s match for her ninth double-double of the season. On the week, Edmond also posted five aces and two total blocks.
Gabby Curry, a junior libero from Buford, Ga., averaged 4.12 digs per set in a 2-0 week for the Wildcats. She was named the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week for a third time this season. Curry recorded 25 digs at No. 11 Florida, leading all players in the match by eight digs. With Sunday’s performance, she has now logged 23 matches this season with 10+ digs.
Madison Lilley, a junior from Overland Park, Kan., averaged 12.62 assists per set in road wins at South Carolina and No. 11 Florida this past weekend. She was named the SEC Setter of the Week for a third time this season on Monday. Lilley logged a season-high 63 assists against the Gators, while adding nine kills, including a put-back at the net to give UK match point in the fifth set. Kentucky had a .361 hitting percentage on the week, including an SEC season-high .418 hitting percentage against the Gamecocks.
Kentucky hosts Missouri on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET. The match will be shown live on the SEC Network, ESPN3 and the ESPN app from inside Memorial Coliseum with Courtney Lyle and Lizzie Stemke on the call.
