Team Records and Series Notes

  • This was Kentucky’s lone exhibition of the season. The Wildcats will officially begin its 46th season of varsity women’s basketball on Tuesday, Nov. 5 against Mount St. Mary’s. The game will tip at 7 p.m. ET and be available on the SEC Network+ and UK Sports Radio Network.
    • Kentucky is 823-40 all-time, including a 448-157 mark in Memorial Coliseum.
  • This was the second all-time meeting in an exhibition game between Kentucky and Southern Indiana. The Wildcats and Screaming Eagles also played in 2017 with the Wildcats earning a 87-56 win.
  • UK is coming off a 25-win season in 2018-19 that ended with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
  • Matthew Mitchell is beginning his 13th season as the head coach of the Wildcats.
    • Mitchell is 311-154 overall in his career and 281-125 during his tenure at Kentucky.

 
Team Notes

  • Kentucky used a 12-0 run over five minutes of play to end the first quarter on a 18-6 run and take a 22-10 lead into the first quarter break.
    • The Screaming Eagles went just 3-of-10 from the field in the first quarter, including 0-of-6 from 3. The Wildcats went 9-of-17 from the field and 1-of-3 from long range. The lone connection from deep belong with freshman Emma King.
  • The Wildcats outscored the Screaming Eagles 15-8 in the second quarter to take a 37-18 lead into the break at halftime.
    • UK went just 6-of-13 from the field in the second quarter, while USI went 3-of-18.
  • Both teams were loose with the ball in the first half with Kentucky totaling 11 miscues while Southern Indiana had 12.
    • The Wildcats turned those SIU turnovers into 18 points, while Southern Indiana scored 11 points off UK turnovers.
  • Kentucky came out hot to start the third quarter and took its lead up to 30 with 7:23 to play in the third but then the Wildcats went 6:24 without a field goal and USI went on a 11-2 run to cut into UK’s lead. Howard ended the drought with a 3 with 0:59 left to play in the quarter.
  • The Wildcats took control of the game in the fourth quarter by hitting nine straight field goals to outscore the Screaming Eagles, 25-11.
  • Kentucky went 30-of-61 from the field for 49.2 percent, while going 10-of-28 from long range.
  • UK outrebounded USI, 42-32, while both teams were tied 14-14 in offensive rebounds.
  • The Wildcats forced Southern Indiana into 20 turnovers and scored 35 points off those miscues.
  • Kentucky had nine blocks in the game, which would have tied their most blocks in a game last season.

 
Player Notes

  • Senior guard Amanda Paschal started and scored nine points with two assists in 27 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore guard Rhyne Howard led all scorers with 20 points, including 17 points in the second half.

    • Howard had a hand in each of Kentucky’s first 13 points of the third quarter. She hit 3s on back-to-back possessions to start the quarter followed by an assist and a third 3-pointer on the following possession. After a Southern Indiana timeout, Howard’s defense forced a USI turnover near half court and recorded another assist. 
    • Howard went 6-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 from long range in the second half only with two assists and a block.
  • Junior forward Tatyana Wyatt played 12 minutes and went 3-of-4 from the field with six points and six rebounds.
  • Senior guard Jaida Roper played 24 minutes and had six points with a game-high six assists.
  • Senior guard Sabrina Haines saw her first career action for the Wildcats and scored 11 points with six rebounds and two steals.
    • Haines started the game 4-of-4 from the field for eight first-half points.
  • Freshman guard Emma King scored nine points in the first half, which was the most of any player in the first 20 minutes.
    • King started the game 3-of-5 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range.
    • King ended the game with 12 points going 4-of-6 from long range with an assist.
  • Junior forward KeKe McKinney played 27 minutes and had six points with seven rebounds, four assists and five blocks.
    • Her five blocks in the game would have tied a career high in blocks.
  • Sophomore guard Blair Green had eight points in the game with two rebounds and two assists. Green started and played 22 minutes.
