Kentucky Women’s Soccer Falls to LSU on Thursday Night
BATON ROUGE, La. — Kentucky (6-10-3, 1-8-1 SEC) fell, 3-2, at Louisiana State University (3-12-3, 1-7-2 SEC) on Thursday night to finish up its 2019 season. Two goals from freshman forward Jordyn Rhodes wasn’t enough as Molly Thompson scored twice for LSU while Meghan Johnson tacked on another as the Tigers won their first Southeastern Conference game of the season.
Rhodes’ goals came in the 28th and 75th minutes and were both set up beautifully thanks to assists from Marissa Bosco and Cami Dade. After falling down 2-0 early, Bosco played a good ball on the ground through the LSU defense to find Rhodes who scored in a one-on-one effort against the goalkeeper to pull one back for the Wildcats in the 28th minute.
A similar situation occurred in the 75th minute when Dade won a ball at midfield and played a strong through-ball to Rhodes who placed it past the keeper to tie the game up with 15 minutes to play. It wasn’t enough though as the Tigers’ Thompson scored her second goal of the night in the 84th minute which eventually became the game winner.
Rhodes scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season and her career, pulling level with fellow freshman forward Hannah Richardson who also scored eight in her first season. Seniors Gina Crosetti and Foster Ignoffo played their final minutes of their great careers at the University of Kentucky.
