No. 3 UK Rifle Travels West For Match In Colorado
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – No. 3 UK rifle heads back on the road this weekend, as the team travels west to compete against No. 4 Air Force, No. 14 Nebraska and No. 19 UTEP. The match will begin at 10 a.m. ET/8 a.m. MT (local time) with live targets updated online.
The Wildcats make the trip out west after victories at Murray State and at last weekend’s Kentucky Long Rifle Match, defeating both Murray State and Morehead State. UK now boasts the No. 3 smallbore score (2333) and No. 1 air rifle score (2382) in the country after last Saturday’s match.
Kentucky (8200) defeated Morehead State (8082) and Murray State (8078) last weekend in the Buell Armory. The match utilized a unique format aggregating the scores from seven shooters, instead of the five designated squad members for smallbore and air rifle commonly used within NCAA competition. The scores from the five squad designees were still recorded from this match for NCAA qualifying purposes.
The Wildcats were awarded the “Kentucky Long Rifle” trophy for winning the match, which has been hand engraved to honor all the teams involved. This is the second year of the Kentucky Long Rifle with Kentucky having won both years.
UK will have the weekend off next week before returning to action Friday, Nov. 8, against No. 7 Ole Miss at the Buell Armory. No. 6 Akron will make the trip to Lexington on Sunday, Nov. 10.
This season’s GARC Championships will be in Memphis, Tennessee, on Feb. 28-29. Kentucky will play host to the 2019 NCAA Championships in Memorial Coliseum on March 13-14.
