No. 17/14 Kentucky Swimming & Diving Competes at No. 2/8 Texas
AUSTIN, Texas – In one of their toughest meets of the season, the No. 17/14 University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to the site of the 2019 NCAA Championships for a dual meet against No. 2/8 Texas in Austin, Texas, on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
“We are really looking forward to competing against a historically great program in Texas,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We just want to compete hard and use this opportunity to prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championships and the NCAA Championships.”
The Kentucky women’s team has defeated all four of its opponents this season, including upsetting then-No. 9 Indiana and then-No. 16 Notre Dame in the season opener. On the men’s side, the squad defeated South Carolina and upset then-No. 12 Notre Dame, but fell to then-No. 5 Indiana for a 2-1 record.
Texas is the highest-ranked opponent either team has seen all season, while it will mark the season opener for the Longhorns in their only home meet of the season.

The Kentucky women’s team features the two-time SEC Freshman of the Week Caitlin Brooks, a backstroke swimmer from Gainesville, Florida. The newcomer is unbeaten in the 100-yard backstroke, boasting the fifth-fastest time in the nation in 53.28. On the men’s side, senior Peter Wetzlar remains unbeaten in the 50-yard freestyle, ranking ninth in the nation for his time of 20.01.
Sophomore diver Kyndal Knight is coming off an impressive performance against Ohio and South Carolina on Oct. 18. Sweeping the springboard events for the second time this season, she set a career high on the 3-meter springboard on 334.20 points. Meanwhile, she recorded her second-best score in her collegiate career on the 1-meter springboard, notching a score of 309.20 points.

The Kentucky swimming and diving program will return to Lancaster Aquatic Center to host Missouri, N.C. State and Arkansas, Nov. 7-8.
