No. 15 Kentucky Opens Home Slate of Matches in Bluegrass Battle

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a stretch of six matches on the road to begin the 2019 season, the Kentucky volleyball team will open its home slate of matches on Friday, as the Bluegrass Battle gets underway inside of Memorial Coliseum this weekend in the Bluegrass state.

Kentucky will be welcoming Indiana, Florida Gulf Coast University and Cleveland State for a three-match tournament kicking off on Friday at 10 a.m. ET. The Wildcats will play at Noon ET vs. Cleveland State on Friday before closing out the night session at 8:30 p.m. vs. FGCU. Kentucky and Indiana will renew its border war on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET to close out the tournament.

All of UK’s matches will be broadcast live on the SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. Live stats will be available for all six matches of the tournament. Clay Ables, Dick Gabriel and Kathy DeBoer will have the call from Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

The Wildcats are coming off of a 2-1 weekend at the Northern Iowa Tournament, where UK picked up wins over No. 15 Southern Cal and UNI on the road. The setback was to then-No. 23 Creighton, who went 3-0 on the weekend and vaulted up to No. 16 in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) top-25 rankings.

The morning session on Friday and all matches on Saturday will be free of charge to all fans. Tickets are only required for the night session on Friday, when UK faces FGCU and Indiana taps with Cleveland State. Tickets are available online at UKathletics.com or at the UK Ticket Office. Parking is available in the back of the Joe Craft Center and at lots around Memorial Coliseum on Friday.

Fans are reminded that Friday is a work day for UK employees, so restrictions may apply to certain lots. Saturday, with it being a home football game, there will be restrictions on the south side of campus for gameday parking.
