Kentucky Women’s Soccer Travels to Eastern Kentucky on Thursday

by Tommy Scott

LEXINGTON, Ky.- Kentucky (4-0-2) travels to Eastern Kentucky (1-5-0) on Thursday at 4 p.m. at EKU Soccer Field in Richmond, Kentucky. This matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+ and will be the second road game for the Wildcats this season, with their other road matchup at George Mason producing a 4-2 win.

“I’m really excited to get this team back out on the field,” Kentucky head coach Ian Carry said. “We are continuously growing and learning. We are very young and each day at practice is another opportunity for us to embed our philosophy and embed our style, but we are also able to show this team what our vision and direction that we want this program to go is. I love it because every day everyone is so upbeat and smiling at practice. I think this game is another big test for us on the road, but hopefully we can continue this momentum into our game with Eastern Kentucky on Thursday.”

UK enters this contest with the Colonels after a 3-0 win over Miami (OH) at home on Sunday afternoon at The Bell. Goals from Marissa Bosco, Hannah Richardson and Gina Crosetti made the difference for Kentucky as the Wildcats won their fourth-straight game of the season, recording their third-straight shutout in the process.

UK has scored 14 goals in its first six games this season while only conceding five to go along with four shutouts. A win on Thursday would already match the win total from last season’s team as Kentucky has made many key changes over the past year to improve the team on and off of the field.

Hannah Richardson and Jordyn Rhodes lead the team in goals scored with four each while Foster Ignoffo and Miranda Jimenez lead the team in assists with two each. Six other Wildcats have scored one goal apiece.

EKU dropped its last game, 3-1, to Northern Kentucky on Sunday at home. Eastern Kentucky has scored four goals and have allowed nine goals through six games this season. Kylie Thompson leads the Colonels in scoring with three goals.

Looking forward, Kentucky hosts Indiana on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Bell.
