Kentucky Women’s Soccer Hosts Miami (OH) on Sunday Afternoon

by Tommy Scott

LEXINGTON, Ky.- Kentucky (3-0-2) hosts Miami (OH) (1-3-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Bell. This game also serves as senior day for midfielder Gina Crosetti, forward Foster Ignoffo and undergraduate assistant coach Evangeline Soucie. Those three seniors will be celebrated prior to kickoff. This matchup will be streamed live on SEC Network+ with Dave Baker and Payton Atkins on the call.

“We just need to continue to build,” Kentucky head coach Ian Carry said. “The momentum of three wins in a row has been important. The atmosphere in the locker room is night and day from what it has been in the past because we’ve got a group of young women who want to play here at Kentucky and a group of young women who have bought into what we are building. We are really excited to get this team back out on the field on Sunday.”

The Wildcats enter the contest with the RedHawks after a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky on Thursday night at The Bell. Hannah Richardson’s goal in the 30th minute of that matchup was the difference as UK took down an in-state opponent in NKU.

Kentucky is on a three-game win-streak and is unbeaten this season with three wins and two draws. The Wildcats have also scored 11 goals on the year and have only conceded five through their first five games. Additionally, UK has had three shutouts overall and two in its last two fixtures (a 3-0 win over Youngstown State and a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky).

Miami (OH) is coming off of its first win of the season on Friday night against Morehead State by a score of 2-1 in double overtime. Goals by Olivia Winnett (77th minute) and Lyda Bogdanovitch (105thminute) led the RedHawks to their first win of the young season. Miami (OH) have only scored three goals through four matches this season while conceding eight.

Looking forward, Kentucky travels to Eastern Kentucky in Richmond on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the EKU Soccer Field.
