Kentucky Women’s Soccer Defeats George Mason on Thursday Night
FAIRFAX, Va.– Kentucky (1-0-2) defeated George Mason (0-2-0) by a score of 4-2 on Thursday night at George Mason Stadium. Four goals from four different players was key in the Wildcats securing their first win of the season.
Hannah Richardson started things off in the 10th minute with a poacher’s effort in the box after the ball was kicked around a few times, but Richardson got a foot to it and guided it in for a goal.
After George Mason equalized and made things 1-1, an incredible effort from Julia Grosso down the right wing forced an error from the Patriots’ keeper and Grosso fired in a shot from 20 yards out to put the Cats up.
GMU would equalize again before halftime, but after a strong halftime talk from the coaching staff, UK came out firing on all cylinders.
Jordyn Rhodes pressured the defense into a mistake, stole the ball and fired in a goal past the keeper to put Kentucky up 3-2 in the 47th minute.
Valdis Björg Sigurbjörnsdóttir’s free-kick goal from 30 yards out put the game to bed as the Wildcats defense settled in and saw the game through to the end.
