Kentucky Cross Country Begins 2019 at The Miami Opener
OXFORD, Ohio– The Kentucky cross country team will start the 2019 campaign at the Miami Opener on Friday with the meet beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
The men’s team will run an 8,000-meter race beginning at 3:30, followed by the 6k women’s race that begins at 4:20.
UK assistant coach Hakon DeVries will handle training and strategy for another season with the cross country and distance runners.

Following this weekend’s opener, the next race for UK will come on Sept. 27 at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Virginia at 9:30 a.m. ET.
Men’s Team Outlook
The men’s team enters the 2019 season ranked No. 13 in the Southeast Region in the U.S. Track &Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll, which is made up of every Division I team in the states of Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
Kentucky returns three of its top-5 runners from the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships in Patrick Schaefer, Brennan Fields and Matthew Thomas.
The Wildcats are projected to finish T-4 with Florida in the SEC’s 2019 preseason poll.
Women’s Team Outlook
The women’s team enters the 2019 season ranked No. 8 within the Southeast by the USTFCCCA after finishing last season at No. 10.
UK returns four of its top-5 runners from last year’s SEC Championships in Caitlin Shepard, Rachel Boice, Kelli Walsh and Madisyn Peeples.
In the SEC’s 2019 preseason poll, Kentucky is projected to finish T-8 with Texas A&M.
The 2019 SEC Championships will be hosted in Lexington on Nov. 1.
