Kentucky Women’s Soccer Hosts Western Kentucky on Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky.- Kentucky (0-0-1) hosts in-state opponent Western Kentucky (1-0-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at The Bell. The game will be streamed live on SEC Network+ with Dave Baker and former UK soccer player Payton Atkins on the call.
“It’s another good game for us to mature, and for us to learn and for us to build,” Kentucky head coach Ian Carry said. “We’ve been together for 14 days now and we started six freshmen (against Bowling Green). We’re a very young side that’s beginning to gel.”
The Wildcats enter the matchup with the Hilltoppers coming off of a 3-3 draw on Thursday night against Bowling Green. The goal scorers in that game were freshman forward Jordyn Rhodes (two goals) and sophomore midfielder Hikari Yamada (one goal). Rhodes impressed in her collegiate debut, scoring in both halves of regulation.
The Hilltoppers defeated Belmont, 5-0, on Thursday night in their season opener. With four goals in the first half and one in the second, WKU played well against the Bruins. Western Kentucky’s Ansley Cate (two goals) and Ambere Barnett (one goal, two assists) were the stars in the match.
Looking forward, Kentucky travels to George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia on Thursday at 7 p.m.
