Lesedi Jacobs Named 2019 ITA Scholar-Athlete

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Redshirt sophomore University of Kentucky women’s tennis player Lesedi Jacobs was named a 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete, it was announced by the ITA. The women’s tennis team was also pegged as a 2019 ITA All-Academic Team.
 
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
 
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2018 and spring 2019).
 
Jacobs is the first UK women’s tennis player to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete since 2016. She is majoring in accounting, and she hopes to pursue graduate school at Kentucky.
 
The Namibia, Africa, native has put together a successful season, helping lead the Wildcats to the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals and the NCAA Tournament second round. Competing primarily on the second and third singles courts, Jacobs owns a 12-9 singles record in 2019-20, including one ranked win over then-No. 100 Jayci Goldsmith of Texas A&M, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Remarkably, between the months of January to March, Jacobs held an eight-match win streak in the singles competition.
