UK Resumes SEC Play Looking to Add to Win Streak
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding the momentum of a three-match win streak compiled last weekend, No. 38 Kentucky jumps back into Southeastern Conference play with a home tilt versus No. 8 Texas A&M (17-4, 7-1 SEC) on Thursday at 1 p.m. ET, followed by a road match against No. 37 LSU (14-7, 2-6 SEC) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
“We’re looking forward to both matches,” said assistant coach Matthew Gordon. “There are no easy matchups in the SEC. We are at the final stretch now, and this is where we need to bring our best tennis.”
Both the Aggies and Tigers are coming off losses, with the latter recording two in a row. Texas A&M lost 5-2 at No. 2 Florida last Sunday, snapping a string of 14 consecutive wins. LSU fell by the same score to the Gators last Friday, following the result with a 5-2 loss at No. 18 South Carolina the next day. The Tigers will play a third straight road match on Thursday versus No. 35 Vanderbilt prior to facing the Wildcats.
Kentucky defeated Vandy 4-3 in Nashville last Friday. The Cats ended last weekend with a neutral-site doubleheader versus Niagara, winning back-to-back 4-0 decisions.
Last season, Kentucky swept LSU 7-0 after winning 5-2 in 2017. Texas A&M has defeated UK in each of the last two matchups in the head-to-head series. The Aggies triumphed 5-2 over the Tigers on March 16 in Baton Rouge, La.
