Cats Take New Orleans for Session II of SEC Championship
NEW ORLEANS – After ending its regular season with a record of 7-7 (3-4 Southeastern Conference), No. 9 Kentucky is set to make its second straight appearance in the second session of the SEC Championship on Saturday in New Orleans, live on ESPN2 at approximately 8 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats will be joined head-to-head by the league’s other top four competitors, No. 3 LSU (11-3, 4-3 SEC), No. 4 Florida (7-2, 6-1 SEC), and No. 8 Georgia (10-4, 4-3 SEC), though final scores will be compared among all eight conference teams to determine Saturday’s champion.
The Wildcats ended the regular season with a National Qualifying Score of 197.085, the best in school history. Kentucky defeated the Tigers 197.150-196.025 at home on Feb. 8, fell 197.675-196.650 to the Gators on the road on Jan. 25, and lost 197.300-197.225 to the Bulldogs on the road on Feb. 15. UK concluded the regular season with five 197-point performances over its final six meets.
Last Tuesday, senior Katie Stuart was named the second SEC Specialist of the Week in program history for tying the school’s second-best individual mark on vault with a career-high 9.975 in the Cats’ regular-season finale in Lincoln, Neb. The following day, fellow senior Alex Hyland was named Kentucky’s first ever SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient, sharing the title with Auburn’s Samantha Cerio.
Last season, then-junior Sidney Dukes earned the individual title of 2018 SEC Co-Champion on floor, leading the Cats to the first top-four team finish in the event’s history.
