UKTF to Begin 2019 Outdoor Season at UTSA Invitational
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kentucky track and field teams will start the outdoor season this weekend at the UTSA Invitational Friday-Saturday, March 15-16, at Park West Athletics Complex.
Kentucky will compete alongside hosts UTSA, as well as Purdue, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTRGV.
The two-day meet will get underway at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT – local) Friday with the hammer throw followed by the shot put, while the javelin is on the docket for 6 p.m. Four distance races — the men’s and women’s 2,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000m—are slated to start at 9 p.m.
Saturday’s field events will begin at noon and the running events will start at 3 p.m. on a rolling schedule.
The UK Women’s team placed 21st, and the men’s team finished 29th at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships last weekend.
The outdoor season will build up to the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Arkansas, May 9-11. The NCAA Outdoor Championships will take place in Austin, Texas, June 5-8.
The UK women’s team placed fourth and the men’s team was 16th at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The UKTF women were sixth and the men were seventh at outdoor SECs last year.
