No. 11 Kentucky Ends Regular Season at Georgia Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Looking to end the regular season with win and secure a top-four seed in next week’s Southeastern Conference Tournament, the No. 11 University of Kentucky women’s basketball team travels to face Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET inside Stegeman Coliseum.
The game will be broadcast on SEC Network with Courtney Lyle and Tamika Catchings on the call. The action can also be seen through WatchESPN on computers, smartphones or tablets. Kentucky (23-6, 10-5 SEC) is coming off a loss to No. 19 Texas A&M on Thursday that snapped its six-game winning streak in the league. Senior guard Maci Morris led Kentucky, which battled back from a 15-point first-half deficit to have a lead in the third quarter. Morris scored 11 points, hitting three 3s while sophomore forward Tatyana Wyatt had 10 points with five rebounds. Senior guard Taylor Murray had nine points with five assists, three steal and three rebounds, while freshman Rhyne Howard scored seven points with three rebounds battling foul trouble most the game with 22 minutes played.
Howard leads Kentucky this season in scoring and rebounding, posting 16.3 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. The rookie is the only freshman in the nation that has scored over 450 points with 60 made 3s, 60 assists and 60 steals. Morris is averaging 15.4 points per game with a team-best 68 3s, while Murray is earning 12.8 points per game and leads Kentucky with 105 assists and 91 steals.
Georgia (18-10, 9-6 SEC) enters Sunday’s regular-season finale on a four-game winning streak with wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida. The Bulldogs could claim the fourth seed in the SEC Tournament next week with a win vs. Kentucky and Missouri loss to Alabama. UGA is 13-2 at home this season with the two home losses coming to Texas A&M and Alabama. Georgia started the season ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25.
The Bulldogs have been led this season by senior forward Caliya Robinson who is averaging 14.8 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Gabby Connally is averaging 12.4 points and 2.3 rebounds per game with a team-best 48 3-pointers made, while redshirt junior Taja Cole is earning 11.0 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game with a team-best 183 assists and 48 steals.
As a team, UGA is averaging 68.6 points per game and hitting 43.8 percent from the field and 30.6 percent from long range. The Bulldogs have a +5.0 rebounding margin this season and +0.8 turnover margin.
Georgia leads the all-time series in games played against Kentucky, 37-18, including a 17-6 advantage in games played in Athens. UK has won four of the last five meetings with the lone loss during that stretch coming last year in Lexington when the Bulldogs earned a 56-42 victory. UK has won two straight meetings in Athens, winning 66-56 in 2017 and 64-53 in 2016.
