UK Rifle Third at 2019 GARC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Kentucky rifle team finished the 2019 Great American Rifle Conference Championships in third place after a 4663 over two days inside Akron’s Stile Athletics Field House.
 
West Virginia won with a 4715 and Nebraska was team runner-up (4666).
 
Kentucky shot a 2354 in the Saturday air rifle, third in the AR team standings. Freshman Will Shaner was third in air rifle individually with a 595. WVU won team air rifle (2373) and Army was second (2361).

The Wildcats fired a 2309 in smallbore on Friday, ranking third in the team standings after day one.
 
UK’s aggregate, air rifle and smallbore totals all ranked No. 13 out of its outputs in those categories this season.

 
Notes 
The GARC is composed of Akron, Army, Kentucky, Memphis, Navy, Nebraska, North Carolina State and West Virginia.
 
UK, West Virginia, Navy and Army are four of the eight teams that qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be hosted by West Virginia in a fortnight. All nine GARC teams rank among the top 20 nationally.
 
UK took second to last year’s host West Virginia at the GARC Championships. The Wildcats placed third the last time the competition was held inside Stiles Field House in 2017.
 
Kentucky (11-1, 7-1 Great American Rifle Conference) finished second in the GARC regular-season standings.
