Kentucky Wraps Up Day Two of Miami Spring Invite

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a slow start to the weekend, Kentucky women’s tennis found success on the court Saturday at the Miami Spring Invite in Coral Gables, Florida, notching three singles wins over No. 19 Northwestern.

The four-team field includes host No. 17 Miami, No. 19 Northwestern, second-ranked Vanderbilt and Kentucky. It is the final preseason tournament for the Wildcats before the regular season schedule commences Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Kentucky collected three singles wins versus a competitive Northwestern team. Senior Justina Mikulskyte led the way, defeating 100th-ranked Clarissa Hand on a 6-3, 6-2 outcome. Senior Akvile Paražinskaite also handled business in her singles match, impressing Inci Ogut of Northwestern with a 6-3, 6-3 decision.

With grit, freshman Tiphanie Fiquet put forth a rewarding fight rolling past Lee Or, on a 7-5, 7-6 (2) verdict.

While the singles competition generated momentum for the Wildcats, it wasn’t enough to walk away with a doubles victory over No. 2 Vanderbilt.

The Wildcats will return to action for the final day of the Miami Spring Invite Sunday, for another chance to earn winning marks ahead of the regular season.
