Abby Steiner Voted to 2018 SEC All-Freshman Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Columbus, Ohio native Abby Steiner of the Kentucky women’s soccer team was named to the 2018 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Sunday afternoon.
Steiner’s honor is the first major conference award of her career, and marks the third-straight season that the Wildcats have had a member on the All-Freshman Team.
“I’m very proud of Abby as she continued to grow as a soccer player throughout the season,” head coach Ian Carry said. “She was a threat to everyone we played this year. I’m looking forward to her building upon her speed while in track season, and re-joining us in the summer. She has a very bright career ahead of her.”
Steiner led all Kentucky players in 2018 with five assists on the season, including three in SEC play. She was also the only player on the team to play in and start all 19 matches of the season, setting the mark for sustained excellence.
Steiner marks the second player honored under Carry as head coach, with Miranda Jimenez also being awarded a spot on the All-Freshman Team a year ago. Jimenez scored the match-winning goal on Thursday night over Georgia.
Kentucky continues to boast one of the most youthful, fun and exciting lineups in all of major college soccer, with nine freshman and sophomores in the starting lineup for 2018. The Wildcats will look to build upon Steiner’s success in 2019.
