Kentucky Celebrates Atkins, Samarzich on Senior Night

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky will close out its 2018 season on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. ET against the Georgia Bulldogs at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington.

The match will be shown live on the SEC Network+ and the ESPN app. Thursday is also Senior Night, where UK seniors Payton Atkins and Tanya Samarzich will celebrate their careers prior to the match starting.

The Bulldogs are coming off of a 1-1 draw with Alabama in Athens on Sunday afternoon. UK fell to No. 10 Vanderbilt, 4-1 on Sunday, as the Commodores clinched their first SEC regular season championship since 1994 with one match day to spare.

Kentucky trails the all-time series with Georgia 8-12-3. However, the Wildcats have won four of the last five meetings with UGA, dating back to 2013. The Wildcats and Bulldogs have played on the last matchday of the season each of the last three seasons.

Last year, UK got a 3-0 win in Athens, putting them into a 3-way tie for 10th place in the SEC, but missing out on the sixth tiebreaker procedure for a final spot in Orange Beach for the SEC Tournament.
