Asafo-Adjei Receives SEC Player of the Week Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky offensive tackle George Asafo-Adjei has been named Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league. It is Asafo-Adjei’s second honor of the season.

The No. 12 Wildcats produced another physical victory on Saturday night, besting Vanderbilt 14-7 in a game that was played with wind gusts topping 50 miles per hour. UK now is 6-1 for the first time since the 2007 team also opened 6-1. The Cats also are 4-1 in SEC play, the best start in league play since the 1977 team began 5-0.

Asafo-Adjei, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound tackle from West Chester, Ohio, helped the Wildcats power their way to 195 yards and three touchdowns rushing. Affectionately known as “Big George,” the senior graded at 89 percent with three knockdown blocks and 23 blocks at the point of attack as the Cats rushed for 280 yards. The senior played every offensive snap without an assignment error, did not have a penalty and did not allow any sacks or quarterback pressures.

The Cats return to the field this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when they travel to Missouri at Faurot Field in Columbia. The game will air on the SEC Network.
