Wildcats Look to Rebound at No. 13 South Carolina on Sunday

by Chris Shoals

LEXINGTON, Ky.  – The Kentucky Wildcats will play their final national television match of the season on Sunday afternoon in the heat and humidity of the Palmetto State against the No. 13 South Carolina Gamecocks at 5 p.m. ET live on ESPNU.

The match will also be available on the ESPN app. Mike Watts (pxp) and former United States Women’s National Team goalkeeper Jill Loyden will have the call from Stone Stadium.

The Wildcats are in search of their first Southeastern Conference win of the season, after an 0-2-0 start to league play with losses to Missouri and Florida. Thursday night, Kentucky dropped a 6-0 decision to the Florida Gators, which was the highest margin of defeat since a 2014 NCAA Sweet 16 match vs. Virginia. It was UK’s worst conference loss by margin of defeat in program history.

Kentucky is  8-11-3 all time against South Carolina. The Wildcats dropped a tight 1-0 decision last year in Lexington to the top-five ranked Gamecocks on a Savannah McCaskil goal just before halftime. UK has lost its last two trips to Columbia in 2016 and 2014.

The last time the Wildcats won against South Carolina was in 2014. The last UK win at Stone Stadium was in 2011, in a 1-0 win over USC.
