UK Rifle Faces Challenging, Rewarding Slate for 2018-19

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Highlighted by six home matches, the defending national champion Kentucky rifle team unveiled another challenging schedule for the 2018-19 season.

“We have a tough schedule, but we’re excited about it,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “Hopefully we’ve set (the schedule) up to the point where we can maximize our performances at the right time. I’m looking forward to getting the season started and hitting the road with the opportunities to get even better.”

The Wildcats will kick off the season on the road with a Great America Rifle Conference match on Oct. 6 at Nebraska before returning home to the Buell Armory on Oct. 13 for a tri-match with in-state foes Murray State, who finished fourth at last season’s NCAA Championships, and Morehead State.

Following a two-week break, UK will hit the road again for a two-match weekend at Ole Miss on Oct. 27 and take a short drive to Memphis for a matchup on Sunday, Oct. 28. Two consecutive home matches will take up the second weekend in November. The Wildcats will host N.C. State on Nov. 9 prior to their final home match of the fall slate on Nov. 11 with Army. A trip to the United States Naval Academy on Nov. 17 will round out the fall as the fourth road match to date.

UK will get the spring season started by hosting Akron on Jan. 19 before another two-match road swing at the Withrow Invitational – hosted by Murray State – on Jan. 25 and a dual match with Ohio State on Jan. 27 in Columbus, Ohio.

Nineteen-time and 2017 national champions West Virginia will travel to Lexington for the regular-season home finale on Feb. 9 while the final home match – the NCAA Qualifier – will be held Feb. 16-17.

This season’s GARC Championships will be in Akron, Ohio, on Feb. 22-24. West Virginia and its new range will play host to the 2018 NCAA Championships on March 8-10.
