Howell and Cline Named to SEC Community Service Team

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field seniors were honored as members of the 2018 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for track and field and cross country on Wednesday.
 
David Cline
An honor roll student who graduated this semester with a degree in Biosystems Engineering in addition to an extensive record of community service during his time at UK. Cline went on the UK athletics department service trip in Panama for a week in Summer 2017. He gave 15 volunteer hours at the Lexington Ronald McDonald house in fall 2017, took part in a project making blanked for the UK Children’s Hospital, Packed food for the less fortunate in Lexington and volunteered at the Louisiana Flood Relief project in Lexington.

He is the UK record holder in the indoor weight throw, and ranks No. 2 on the UK all-time hammer throw list. He’s scored at the SEC Championships and qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships multiple times.
 
Jacklyn Howell
Howell has been a consistent presence in the community giving time and effort to help those around her.
 
She volunteered at Goodwill of Kentucky USATF Hershey Run and Throw event, volunteered at UK’s 2014 blanket project making blankets for those in need during the winter, passed out United Way collection buckets at a UK football game in Sept. 2014, took part in Louisiana flood drive relief in Sept. 2016 and packed food as part of UK’s backpack food donation program throughout her four years at UK.

She was SEC bronze medalist in the 100m hurdles in 2016, scored in that event at SECs all four years of her career, and qualified for the NCAA Championships multiple times.
 
Sydney McLaughlin and Dwight St. Hillaire swept the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Freshman Runner of the Year awards for the 2018 season.
 
UK had 13 All-SEC selections, plus St. Hillaire and McLaughlin were named to the Conference All-Freshman Team by virtue of finishing as top rookie in their respective events.
 
UK will next compete at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will take place June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon.
