No. 24 Kentucky Opens SEC Tournament vs. Texas A&M Thursday
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 24 Kentucky women’s tennis team will open up postseason play this week, heading to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The eighth-seeded Wildcats will begin the event against ninth-seeded Texas A&M in the second round on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
The tournament in its entirety begins Wednesday, April 18, and culminates in the championship match on Sunday, April 22. The championship match will air live on SEC Network at 2:30 p.m.
Kentucky (14-9, 6-7 SEC) finished the regular season tied for seventh in the league standings, marking back-to-back seasons in which the Wildcats have finished in the top half of the conference. UK has now won six or more regular-season conference matches in four consecutive seasons.
Including the loss to Kentucky, Texas A&M (15-9, 5-8 SEC) dropped five straight matches to end the regular season, with four of those matches coming against top-25 teams.
Thursday’s match marks the 18th meeting between the two programs, with the Wildcats leading the series, 12-5. In the regular season, UK earned a 4-1 victory over the Aggies on Senior Day.
The winner of Thursday’s match will face top-seeded Vanderbilt the following day at 3 p.m.
