No. 23 Kentucky Drops Road Contest at No. 10 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 23 Kentucky women’s tennis team fell 4-0 to the No. 10 Florida Gators at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Florida, on Thursday evening.
 
The match brings Kentucky’s overall record to 14-8 overall, including a 6-6 mark in Southeastern Conference action. Florida leads the conference standings with a 16-6, 11-1 SEC record.
 
Florida earned the doubles point with wins on the bottom two courts, both by a score of 6-3.
 
The Wildcats put up a fight in singles as Kentucky took the first sets on courts four, five and six, but the Gators had the upper hand in the top half of the lineup.
 
UF lengthened its lead to 2-0 as senior Emily Fanning fell to No. 13 Anna Danilina in straight sets on court one, and made it 3-0 as No. 87 Justina Mikulskyte fell to No. 45 Josie Kuhlman on court two.
 
Although senior Mami Adachi led 3-2 in the second set in No. 3 singles, No. 94 McCartney Kessler would rattle off four straight games to clinch the match for the Gators.
 
Both Diana Tkachenko and Lesedi Jacobs led in the second sets as play was completed.
 
The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season Saturday at noon, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to take on the seventh-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.
