Kentucky Closes Regular Season on the Road at South Carolina, Florida
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 23 Kentucky women’s tennis team will wrap up its regular season on the road this weekend, traveling to No. 10 Florida at 5 p.m. ET on Thursday and No. 7 South Carolina at noon on Saturday.
The Wildcats enter the weekend with an overall record of 14-7, including a 6-5 mark in Southeastern Conference play, which puts them at seventh in the league standings.
Kentucky is coming off a perfect 2-0 weekend at home, having defeated LSU and Texas A&M. After switching up the doubles lineup a bit, the Wildcats went undefeated in doubles play this past weekend including two ranked doubles wins from Emily Fanning and Lesedi Jacobs on the top court. Fanning and fellow senior Mami Adachi also went undefeated in singles on their Senior Weekend.
South Carolina (18-4, 10-1 SEC) is coming off its first conference loss of the season to the Gators on Saturday. Florida took the match by a score of 4-2, as the coaches from both teams agreed to play only singles and forgo doubles play. The Gators won the top three singles courts along with the No. 6 court.
Before the matchup with the Gamecocks, Florida (15-6, 10-1 SEC) was coming off a 4-0 loss to Big 12 foe Texas. The Gators’ only conference loss this season came at the hands of Georgia, 4-1, on March 16.
The Wildcats will head to nearby Knoxville, Tennessee next weekend to begin postseason play with the SEC Tournament. The annual event will run from April 18-22. Last season, Kentucky advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
