UKTF to Spend Second Week of Outdoor Season at Vandy

by Jake Most

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second week in a row the Kentucky track and field teams will compete at a meet called “Black and Gold.” The Wildcats will run, jump and throw at the Vanderbilt “Black and Gold” Invitational this weekend.

Last week Kentucky competed at the UCF “Black and Gold” Challenge.

Eleven Wildcats are slated to compete on Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s action will begin at 5 p.m. ET with Kennedy Krieg throwing in the women’s hammer throw. Friday track action will start at 6 p.m. with Janie O’Connor and Jasmine Mitchell in the women’s 200m.

Sarah Crawford is running in the third section of the women’s 1,500m, which starts at 7 p.m., followed by Tanner Dowdy, Cole Dowdy and Alex Mortimer in the men’s 1,500m scheduled to go off about 30 minutes later.

Caitlin Shepard is scheduled to run the women’s 5k at 8 p.m.

Track and field meet name shades
For reference, UCF’s “bright gold” is pantone 7406, while Vandy’s “gold” is pantone 873. What that has to do with the outcome of both meets remains to be seen. Indubitably, UK’s PMS 286 is the most appealing palate for those who have read this far anyway.

Week gone by notebook
Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile was named Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after she began her season with a nation-leading triple jump at the weekend.

The reigning NCAA outdoor triple jump silver medalist opened up with a wind-legal outdoor personal best 44’3.25″/13.49 meters (-0.8) at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational.

Her mark leads the NCAA.

Kentucky’s women’s team is ranked No. 12, and the men’s team is ranked No. 22 in the initial USTFCCCA outdoor computer rankings.
