Kentucky Remains in Second Place at Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. – Two sub-70 rounds from junior Fred Allen Meyer and redshirt freshman Max Mehles helped keep the Kentucky men’s golf team in second place after day two at the Schenkel Invitational. UK has a three-shot lead over third-place Mississippi State and Georgia Southern.
 
Kentucky sits at 562 after a 279 today.
 
Meyer posted a 68 today and shot up 18 spots on the leaderboard to T-16. Mehles moved up 29 spots to T-20 after a 69 and is now even after two rounds.
 
“Forest Heights was yielding some birdies today,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “We played awfully well but left a few out there. I like the way this team in trending though. We need to keep doing what we are doing and stay patient tomorrow.”
 
Senior Cooper Musselman went 1-under par today and is currently T-7 at 138.
  
Vanderbilt leads the way at -23 as a team and matched Kentucky with a nine-under par round of 279. The Commodores’ Theo Humphrey is the leader at nine-under 135.
 
Play in the final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
 
Player Roundup
 
Meyer saw just one bogey and carded an impressive five birdies for one of the best rounds of the day. Meyer had three of his birdies in the first six holes, and made the turn three-under par. He started the back nine with a birdie on the par-four 10th and then played par golf the rest of the way to secure the team’s best day two score.
 
Mehles was one-over par after the second hole, but carded five birdies from holes three-nine to go four-under on the front nine. Mehles had a bogey on hole No. 17 and finished three-under par for UK’s second best score of the day.
 
Chip McDaniel had an eventful front nine. After two birdies on hole No. 2 and No. 3, McDaniel double-bogeyed No. 6 and turned around and eagled No. 7. McDaniel was two-under par on the front and two-over par to finish even-par.
 
Cooper Musselman started and ended the front-nine with a birdie but carded three bogeys to make the turn one over. Musselman found three red numbers and one green number on the back nine to finish the day one-under.
 
Lukas Euler carded three birdies today and two bogeys to go one-under.
 
Matt Liston, who is not in the starting lineup, birdied No. 7 and No. 9 and finished the day one-over

Course Details: The 18-hole Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Georgia is a private golf course that opened in 1947. Designed by George Cobb, Forest Heights Country Club measures 6962 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 133 and a 73.6 USGA rating. 
 
Format: Three-day, 54-hole event. Count top four scores each day
 
Schedule of Play: Players will play 18 holes each day
