COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kentucky sophomore Asia Seidt earned her third All-America honor of the 2018 NCAA Championships on Friday evening, placing ninth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.04. Her time was the sixth-fastest time overall of the evening session.

With just one day remaining, the Wildcats are in 19th place with 41 team points.

“We missed a couple opportunities this morning, but Asia came back like a champion tonight in the 100 back and I’m really proud of her,” said Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We’ve got a big day ahead of us tomorrow. It’s the final day and we need to finish strong as a team.”

After finishing 16th in the morning prelims, Seidt came back to Friday night’s consolation final with the determination she’s shown all season. The sophomore shaved almost a full second off her prelims time of 52.04 to win the race and place ninth overall in 51.04. Her finals time was the sixth-fastest overall in the evening session.

Multiple Wildcats finished inside the top 25 of their respective events in the morning session, beginning with junior Kathryn Painter who went 4:08.78 to finish 20th in the 400 IM. Junior Geena Freriks swam a season-best time of 1:44.83 in the 200 free to place 19th overall in the event. Sophomore Madison Winstead was 21st in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.07 and senior Bridgette Alexander came in 21st in the 100 back at 52.46.
