No. 14 Kentucky Falls at No. 11 Ole Miss, 4-1
OXFORD, Miss. – Senior Mami Adachi won her 10th straight singles match, but it wasn’t enough to overcome No. 11 Ole Miss as the Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
Kentucky moves to 11-4 overall on the season, including a 3-2 mark in Southeastern Conference play, while Ole Miss rises to 11-4, 2-3 in SEC play.
After splitting the bottom two doubles courts, the first point came down to No. 1 singles where Emily Fanning and Mami Adachi battled against the 11th-ranked Ole Miss tandem of Arianne Hartono/Alexa Bortles. The Wildcats stuck in it, but the Rebels prevailed with a 7-5 victory to seal the point.
Ole Miss pushed its lead to 2-0 as freshman Brianna Tulloch was defeated in straight sets on court six, but Adachi answered with a 7-6 (4), 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles to put the Wildcats on the board.
On court one, junior Justina Mikulskyte fell 6-4, 6-4 to No. 13 Hartono before sophomore Diana Tkachenko was defeated 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in No. 4 singles to cap the match.
The Wildcats will be back in action at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, traveling to Missisippi State for its fourth-straight road contest.
