No. 9 Kentucky to Wrap Up Regular Season Action at Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. – The No. 8 Kentucky (10-4, 3-4 SEC) gymnastics team will wrap up regular season action at Illinois State (3-12) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET inside the Redbird Arena.
Kentucky’s last meet saw UK post a 196.800, improving its Regional Qualifying Score to 196.800. Although the Wildcats moved down one spot in the rankings, Kentucky still sits at No. 4 in the SEC, ahead of Arkansas, Auburn and Georgia.
Scouting Illinois State
Illinois State is No. 64 in the latest Road to Nationals RQS with a score of 192.085. ISU’s high is 193.600, which they picked up against Eastern Michigan. Most recently, Illinois State finished last in the annual Illinois Classic with a score of 188.550., where they competed against Illinois, Northern Illinois and UIC. The Redbirds’ best event is on bars, where they are No. 61 in the nation. ISU No. 62 on the vault and flor and No. 66 on beam. Gabrielle Cooke is the best all-arounder with an RQS of 38.910.
Kentucky in the Team Rankings
Kentucky fell one spot in the team rankings to No. 9, but improved it’s RQS to 196.800. UK remains in fourth in the SEC in the final week. LSU, Florida and Alabama are ahead of the Wildcats. UK’s high is 197.100, while the Wildcats average 196.505, the 10th-best average in the nation.
Kentucky in the Event Rankings
Kentucky is the top-15 in every event ranking heading into the final week. UK’s best event is on the beam, where they at No. 8 with an RQS of 49.295, and average of 49.098 and a high of 49.350. UK sits at No. 10 on the bars (49.240) and floor (49.305) and No. 12 on the vault with a 49.170.
Individually, Mollie Korth is the 10th best all-arounder in the country at 39.470. Alex Hyland, with a 39.410, is No. 20 in the nation. Korth is No. 15 on the vault (9.895) and bars (9.905). Hyland’s beam RQS is the best on the team with a score of 9.890 and No. 27, while Sidney Dukes paces UK on the floor at No. 21 (9.9)
Impressive All-Around Win
Mollie Korth posted one of the best all-around scores in program history in her all-around win at the New Hampshire Quad Meet, where UK faced New Hampshire, Brown and Yale. Korth’s 39.625 tied her best all-around score ever, and was the seventh-best in program history. Korth’s score is the highest from any Wildcat other than NCAA National Champion Jenny Hansen. The Cambridge, Wisconsin native earned three event wins as well in New Hampshire. She tied her career on the floor and the bars with scores of 9.95 and 9.925, respectively and also won on the vault with a 9.9. She finished third on the beam with a solid 9.875.
Hyland Homecoming
With over 60 fans from Alex Hyland’ hometown in attendance, Hyland posted her third-best all-around score of the season, a 39.400. Hyland’s best event was on the beam with a 9.875.
Senior Night Career High
Katie Carlisle made her last meet in Memorial Coliseum count. She tied her bars career high against Ohio State with a 9.875, and has hit that mark two other times.
