Mikulskyte Tabbed SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky junior Justina Mikulskyte was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Siauliai, Lithuania, native went undefeated in both singles and doubles this past weekend, including a ranked win over then-No. 81 Stephanie Schrage from Princeton at No. 2 singles. Rallying through a three-set match with Schrage to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Wildcats, Mikulskyte helped hand Princeton their first loss of the season.

Against Columbia, Mikulskyte played at the No. 1 singles spot, taking down Christie Wan in straight sets and dropping just one game in the match. She also teamed with Diana Tkachenko to post a 6-0 shutout victory in No. 3 doubles over Ali Pollack/Andrea Kevakian.

Mikulskyte has won three consecutive singles matches – including two over ranked opponents – to help Kentucky to its three-match win streak and get back into this week’s Oracle/ITA Division I Team Rankings at No. 20. The junior also entered the ITA singles rankings for the first time this season at No. 117.

Kentucky will be back in action this Friday, Feb. 23, returning home to the Boone Tennis Complex for a double header with Arizona State (noon ET) and Eastern Kentucky (6 p.m.).
