Cox Matches Season-Low Round on Final Day of Puerto Rico Classic

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico – Senior Evan Cox fired a season-low round of 72 to lead the way for the Kentucky men’s golf team on the final day of play at the Puerto Rico Classic.
 
The Wildcats finished in 14th with junior Lukas Euler scoring a tie for 31st to pace the individual leaderboard.
 
“If you are in high-level athletics, you have to take the good with the bad,” UK coach Brian Craig said. “We have a terrific team, but we got beat up pretty bad this week. That is never fun, but it might be the best thing that could have happened to us. We may be good, but we clearly have a long ways to go. I can’t wait to get back to Lexington to get to work again.”
 
Clemson edged Oklahoma by a stroke to win the team title. Purdue finished in third with Georgia Tech and Alabama rounding out the top five. All but one team in the field was ranked in the top 100 of the Golfstat rankings.

Player Highlights

Cox moved up the leaderboard by 11 spots following his 1-over-par 72 on the final day of play. His round consisted of a team-high four birdies with three coming on the front nine. He played 1-under par over the course’s opening nine holes which included back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth. Cox matched his season-low round with today’s score and concluded the tournament in a tie for 57th.
 
Euler finished in a tie for 31st following a 76 on the final day of action. Senior Cooper Musselman posted an 80, but tied for 43rd the second-best finisher on the team after his round of 67 a day ago.
 
Sophomore Matt Liston carded a 76 on Wednesday and tied for 55th. Senior Chip McDaniel capped his week in 73rd.
