Camacho-Quinn, McLaughlin Earn SEC Weekly Honors
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field Olympians Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and Sydney McLaughlin picked up Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week and Freshman of the Week respectively on Tuesday.
McLaughlin earned the honor for the second weekend in a row, while Camacho-Quinn picked up SEC Runner of the Week for the first time this year. Camacho-Quinn, a two-time NCAA Champion, has earned the honor in past seasons.
Camacho-Quinn, now a junior, ran an NCAA leading 60-meter hurdles time 7.95, her first time under 8 seconds, at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina.
She was second overall, the top collegian, as only professional Kendra Harrison finished ahead of Camacho-Quinn running the American record 7.72.
Camacho-Quinn also ran an indoor PR in the 200m, 23.00, which ranks sixth nationally.
McLaughlin wan an SEC-leading 22.95 in the 200m at the Tiger Paw Invitational, which ranks No. 2 in the nation.
Her time is tops in the nation by a freshman, and it set the UK freshman record. It also moved her to No. 2 on the UK all-time performers’ list. That time ranks No. 2 in the NCAA this year. The time ranks No. 4 on the world all-time junior list, and was the fastest by a junior athlete in 10 years, per IAAF statistician Jon Mulkeen.
McLaughlin ran a nation-leading 51.44 to win the 400 meters at the home McCravy Memorial the week before.
The UK women’s team is ranked No. 3, and the men’s team is No. 10 in this week’s USTFCCCA computer rankings.
