Kentucky Men’s Tennis Heads South to Face Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team will continue nonconference play on Sunday when UK heads to Duke. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The match will be streamed on GoDuke.com here.
 
The Wildcats are coming off a perfect weekend. UK took down Chattanooga and IUPUI last Friday and picked up a historic 4-1 win over Virginia on Sunday. The Cavaliers had only suffered five home losses since 2006 before Kentucky went to Charlottesville and picked up a win. Kentucky dropped the doubles point in the match and Enzo Wallart, Trey Yates, Kento Yamada and Austin Hussey all earned singles wins to give the Wildcats the victory.
 
The first ITA singles and doubles rankings were released on Feb. 7, and one Wildcat appears on the singles list. Ryo Matsumura, with 16.00 points, is currently ranked as the No. 40 player in the nation. This season, Matsumura is a perfect 5-0, with four wins coming on the second court and one as the No. 1 singles player. In doubles, Trey Yates and Enzo Wallart are ranked No. 38.
 
Duke is ranked No. 20 in the latest ITA Coaches poll, dropping one spot from the previous week. Nicolas Alvarez is the only ranked Blue Devil in the latest singles poll at No. 53, and they have no ranked doubles duos. Duke took on Tennessee on the road yesterday and fell, 4-1. The Wildcats are 6-12 all-time against the Blue Devils, but are 4-2 in the last six matches.
 
After facing Duke, the Wildcats will return to action to face Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 25. At 1 p.m.
