No. 6 Kentucky Returns Home to Face No. 13 Georgia
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 6 Kentucky (5-2, 2-2 SEC) gymnastics team returns home to continue SEC action on Friday against No. 13 Georgia (2-3, 2-2 SEC). The meet will begin at 7 p.m. and will be shown live on SEC Network+ and the WatchESPN app with Clay Ables and Leah Little on the call. Introductions will begin at 6:45 p.m.
The Wildcats come back to Memorial Coliseum after two weeks on the road. Kentucky went 1-1 in that stretch while hitting the 196.700 mark in both meets. UK beat Auburn, 196.700 -196.250 and lost to LSU, 197.225 – 196.700.
Scouting the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC. Georgia is coming off its most impressive performance of the season, a 197.000, in its win over Missouri last Friday night. UGA has hit above 196.125 in every meet except opening night, when they scored a 194.525 at Alabama. UGA is ranked No. 8 on the bars with an average score of 49.115. Rachel Dickson leads the way on the bars at No. 17 in the nation with an average score of 9.875, while Sydney Snead comes in at No. 21 with an average score of 9.87. Dickson also sits No. 13 on the floor with an average score of 9.895.
Kentucky in the Team Rankings
For the third week in a row, Kentucky stayed at No. 6 in the nation in the latest Road to Nationals poll. UK’s average score improved to 196.475 after last week. Two SEC teams sit in front of UK, No. 3 LSU and No. 5 Florida.
Kentucky in the Event Rankings
The Wildcats are in the top 10 on the floor, beam and vault and just outside the top 20 on the bars. UK’s best event is on the floor is on the floor at No. 5 in the country with an average score of 49.44245. Kentucky’s high score this season is 49.350. The Wildcats are No. 6 on the beam with a score of 49.170 and also have a score of 49.350. On the vault, Kentucky is No. 8 with 49.130. On bars, UK is No. 21 with an average score of 48.930 and a high of 49.300.
Individually, Mollie Korth is No. 16 in the nation on the vault with a score of 9.87. Alex Hyland is No. 23 in the country on the beam with an average score of 9.865, while Sidney Dukes is No. 21 with an average score of 9.880 on the floor.
Rewriting the Record Books
The 196.700 that Kentucky posted tied the sixth-best score in program history and has only posted a score of 196.700 or better nine times in program history and only six times on the road. UK has hit that mark twice this season, both coming on the road.
First Vault Title
Alex Hyland won her first ever vault title at LSU last week with a score of 9.925. Hyland’s score was a career high and helped the Cats post a 49.125 on the apparatus.
