Kentucky Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 14 Oklahoma State, 4-2
UK will face Wisconsin tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team dropped a 4-2 match to Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. UK will play a consolation match with Wisconsin tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.
The Wildcats dropped the first two doubles courts to hand Oklahoma State the doubles point. The duo of Will Bushamuka and Ryotaro Matsumura was the first to finish, losing 6-2 to Artur Dubinski and Leftherios Theodorou. Julian Cash and Luke Hammond clinched the doubles point for OSU after defeating Enzo Wallart and Cesar Bourgois, 6-3. Jake Stefanik and Austin Hussey were up 5-3 over Jurence Mendoza and Brady Draheim when play was called.
The Cowboys extended their lead to 2-0 after Hussey fell to Mendoza, 6-0, 6-3. Hussey is now 2-2 on the year, with wins over NKU and EKU.
The Wildcats answered back when No. 34 Matsumura took down Tristan Meraut, 6-4, 6-4. Matsumura stays undefeated in the season, improving to 4-0 and 3-0 as the No. 2 singles player. Oklahoma State answered right back to go up 3-1 after Julian Cash defeated No. 84 Bushamuka, 6-3, 7-5.
Wallart kept the Wildcats in the match with a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 win over Mathieu Scaglia to make the match 6-2. He improved to 3-0 this season after wins over EKU and Notre Dame earlier this season.
The final two remaining courts went down to a tiebreak. Oklahoma State clinched the win after Trey Yates dropped a hard fought match with Artur Dubinski, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Kento Yamada was locked in a 5-7, 6-2, 6-6 (5-0) match when play was called due to OSU clinching the point.
