Larsen Sets New Smallbore, Aggregate Records

MURRAY, Ky. – The third-ranked Kentucky rifle team currently sits atop the leaderboard at the Withrow Invitational following a 4696 aggregate score on the opening day of competition that will run through Sunday. The Wildcats bested Murray State’s 4685 with Memphis, North Georgia, Jacksonville State, UT Martin, and UAB left to shoot.

“I’m happy with the work that we put in,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “It’s always disappointing with the numbers not being where we wanted, but being the third match in seven days – I think we’ll be able to get them up to where we want them in the next match. We saw some good things and hope to continue on the path to where we need to be late in the season.”

Henrik Larsen fired a career-best 597 in smallbore. The freshman already led the country in the discipline with his previous record of 595 that he shot three times already. A native of Mysen, Norway, Larsen fired a school-record 200 in standing with 16 center shots. Larsen was also tied for the top aggregate score in the nation but is now in sole possession of the top spot after he shot a 597 in air rifle, second on his career list, for the third time this season and an 1194 total. His aggregate score is a school record.

Freshman Hailee Sigmon achieved a new career high in air rifle of 593, up one point from her previous record. Junior Hanna Carr missed the last match but fired a 591 in air rifle in her return.

The Wildcats will await results from Sunday’s match to determine the overall winner from the invitational. Their next match will be against Memphis in the final regular season home contest on Saturday, Jan. 27.
