Kentucky Downs NKU, EKU in Season-Opening Double Header

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team (2-0) opened its season with a pair of shutout wins over Northern Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky inside the Boone Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
 
The Wildcats started the day with a 7-0 blanking of NKU (0-1), before handing EKU (0-3) a matching 7-0 loss.
 
In the win over the Norse, Kentucky breezed through doubles posting quick wins on all three courts. Notably, Trey Yates and Gus Benson blanked NKU’s Chris Murray/Andrew Niehaus on court two. The additional courts saw 6-1 victories from the Cats. Kentucky saw continued success in singles play vs. NKU, as no UK players dropped a single set in the match.
 
Against EKU, the Wildcats fought their way to another trio of victories to take the first point in the match. Austin Hussey and Jake Stefanik teamed up to take the first doubles win, winning 6-2 on court three. Cesar Bourgois and Enzo Wallart won on court one to clinch the point, 6-4. In singles, UK once against posted wins in straight sets on all six courts.
 
The Wildcats have a quick turnaround before returning to action, traveling to South Bend, Ind., to face off against Notre Dame on Sunday.
