UK Remains Undefeated in GARC, Defeats No. 13 NC State
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The third-ranked Kentucky rifle team capped off its spring-opening weekend with another win over No. 13 North Carolina State on Sunday inside the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center on the West Point campus by a score of 4689-4673, which gave the Wildcats is second top-15 conference win of the trip.
“We wanted to surpass 4700 again, but we were weak in the slings at some points and our standing was ok,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “Overall, the trip was a productive one with two good opponents in Army and NC State. We’ll get back on the range and work on some things to try and keep progressing toward the postseason.”
Henrik Larsen tallied his third 597 in air gun for the season, his second-highest score to date, and a 593 in smallbore en route to top individual honors and his second 1190 aggregate of the weekend. The freshman has now hit 1190 or higher five times this season.
NC State claimed the second and third individual spots but the Wildcats maintained the following three positions on the leaderboard. Billy Azzinaro bettered his air rifle score one point from the win over Army on Saturday with a 593, which led to a fourth place finish with an 1173 aggregate. The junior achieved his second-highest scores of the season for air rifle in back-to-back matches. Jason Spaude improved his overall performance when he moved up to fifth in the individual standings following an 1163 aggregate score. Cathryn Papasodora fired above 590 in air rifle for the fourth time this season to finish one point behind Spaude.
The Wildcats next event will be the Withrow Invitational hosted by Murray State on Jan. 19.
