Three Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky football players Blake Best, Austin MacGinnis and Charles Walker have been named Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced Thursday.
All three players were named to the District 2 team and will be on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot with the honorees for that distinction announced in December. The award honors top student-athletes for their performance both in the classroom and on the field.
MacGinnis, a senior kicker from Wedowee, Alabama, graduated in May 2017 with a degree in finance. He is currently working toward a master’s degree in business administration at UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics. He is set to graduate in just 13 months with his MBA by taking 19 credit hours this semester and 22 hours next semester. MacGinnis became Kentucky’s all-time leading scorer earlier this season and he holds the school records for field goals made, field goals attempted and longest field goal made. His .791 career field goal made percentage ranks third in the school annals. He also holds four single-season school records, along with the school record for most consecutive field goals made.
Walker, a wide receiver from Louisville, Kentucky, has a 3.79 grade point average in finance and marketing. He has 12 receptions for 134 yards this season, including several critical catches late in games. He also averages 17.2 yards per punt return with a long of 52 yards. The former walk-on is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List member.
Best, a junior from Duluth, Georgia, serves as the Wildcats’ longsnapper on field goals and extra points. He has a 3.95 grade point average in economics and finance and is a three-time Dean’s List honoree, as well as a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
