LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky senior center Alyssa Rice has been appointed to represent the Southeastern Conference on the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Competition Committee. Her term begins immediately and continues through June 30, 2018.

The NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Oversight Competition Committee is comprised of 12 members and is responsible for reviewing specific areas, and as appropriate, develop and recommend strategic principles in order to maintain the women’s college basketball game true to its original rules, playable, watchable, popular and relevant. The committee reviews the areas of student-athlete health and safety, sportsmanship, integrity, game operations, game presentation, technology, and statistical trends.

“The Conference office is extremely proud to have Alyssa representing the league on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Competition Committee,” said Misty Brown, the SEC’s Director of Student-Athlete Engagement. “Alyssa’s knowledge of the game, involvement in various leadership capacities and eagerness to learn will positively impact her role on the committee.”

Earlier this year, Rice was voted chair of the SEC Women’s Basketball Leadership Council. She was a participant in the Autonomy Five Meeting and SEC Spring Meetings in June, and the Reynoldsburg, Ohio, native will represent the conference as an SEC autonomy representative during the NCAA Convention in January.

Rice has played in 93 career games with 43 starts entering her senior year as a Wildcat. A three-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Rice played in 33 games with 30 starts as a junior, averaging 21.8 minutes per game, 4.2 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. She also finished second on the team with 22 blocks last season. Rice was named to the SEC Community Service Team last season and earlier this year traveled with several other UK athletes on a service trip to Panama.
