Wildcats to Take on Tennessee and Indiana in First Road Meet

by Karlie Kinneer

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky swimming and diving will compete against some of the top teams in the nation Friday, traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee, to take on Tennessee and Indiana inside the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. ET start.

“This meet will be a real challenge,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “This will be the highest level competition we’ve faced this year. We’re excited to see where we are at this time of the year and leading up to the Ohio State Invitational. It’s going to be fun to race against some of the best teams in the country.”

Five of the six teams competing in Friday’s double dual are ranked in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) NCAA Division I Coaches’ Poll, which was released Wednesday. While the Kentucky men’s team is not ranked, the Wildcat women held strong at No. 15 in the latest poll.

For the second consecutive year, Indiana’s men enter the meet at the top of the poll, while the Hoosier women are ranked No. 8. The Tennessee men and women are both ranked as well, coming in at No. 15 and No. 12, respectively.

All four opposing squads have faced ranked teams this season, but this will be the first meet in which the Wildcats will swam against top-25 foes.

Last season, the Kentucky men’s team recorded a historic victory in the meet, picking up its first win over Tennessee since 1953, defeating the then-No. 13 Volunteers, 167-143. The women’s team will look to earn its first victories over Tennessee since 1999 and Indiana since 2007.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcat men and women are each coming off wins over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 14. Both teams combined for 25 event victories in the outing, including six individual NCAA ‘B’ cuts.

ON DECK: SALUKI INVITE
Next up for UK is a trip to Carbondale, Illinois, to take on Southern Illinois, Northwestern and Missouri in a two-day quad meet, Nov. 3-4.
